What Is a Wall Inspection Hatch Used For?

A wall inspection hatch provides easy access to installations hidden behind the wall surface, such as pipes, valves, electrical wiring, or junction boxes. It’s a smart solution that simplifies maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs without the need to demolish the wall.

Benefits of an Inspection Hatch

– Service-friendly: Enables quick access to technical systems

– Discreet design: Visually blends with wall surfaces

– Security: Multiple lock options available

– Time-saving: Reduces the need for demolition during service

Typical Applications

-Bathrooms and laundry rooms

– Electrical panels and cable ducts

– Technical systems in public buildings

– Commercial properties with hidden installations

– HVAC and plumbing systems in walls

Materials and Design

Inspection hatches are available in a variety of materials, including steel, gypsum, and aluminium. They may be painted, tileable, or designed to be filled with surface materials that match the surroundings. The hatches can be custom-sized and installed in either walls or ceilings, depending on the project’s requirements.

Regulations & Recommendations

In Sweden, the installation of inspection hatches is governed by the Swedish Building Regulations (BBR), particularly in areas requiring fire or moisture protection.

Important considerations:

– Fire rating: EI30 or EI60 is required in fire compartment boundaries

– Moisture rating: In wet areas, hatches must comply with GVK or Säker Vatten guidelines

– Accessibility: The hatch must be easy to access and not obstructed by interior elements
