Smoke ventilation hatches

Smoke ventilation is a system that channels smoke and heat out of a building in the event of a fire. It improves visibility, lowers temperatures, and makes evacuation safer for people while aiding the emergency services. It saves lives and limits damage.

Smoke ventilation hatches are commonly installed in:

  • Stairwells and elevator shafts
  • Industrial buildings and warehouses

They are usually placed in the roof, but can also be installed in façades or the ground depending on the solution.

The number and size are based on the building’s area, usage, and fire rating. It’s calculated using aerodynamic free area in accordance with EN 12101-2. Contact us – we’ll be happy to help with the sizing.

They can be controlled in several ways:

  • Automatically via fire alarm

  • Electrically
  • Fire brigade key

The solution is chosen based on the building’s safety classification and needs, as well as whether it involves a roof, façade, or ground hatch.

Common options include:

  • Insulation (thermal/sound)
  • Wind deflectors for improved airflow
  • Safety grilles on the inside
  • Integrated ladder or maintenance platform
  • Automatic reset
