The expansion of data centres continues at a rapid pace across Sweden and the rest of the Nordic region. AI, cloud services and the growing demand for digital capacity are driving major investments in new facilities – while requirements for safety, accessibility and reliable technical infrastructure continue to increase.
Elkington AB is featured in the latest issue of Framtidens Datacenter, which highlights some of the projects, investments and technical solutions shaping the ongoing expansion of the data centre sector.
We have previously written about the requirements that data centre environments place on safe and functional access. Read our article on access solutions for data centres for a closer look at how the right solutions can contribute to safe and efficient technical environments.
Data centres place high demands on physical infrastructure
A modern data centre consists of far more than servers. These facilities rely on power supply, cooling, ventilation, security and building systems that need to operate around the clock.
This also places high demands on how technical installations can be accessed for service, inspection and maintenance.
For Elkington, data centres are therefore an interesting and growing segment. We work with solutions for safe and functional access in buildings and technical environments where quality, accessibility and long-term performance are essential.
Depending on the design of the project, access may be required in several parts of the building, including solutions for floors, ground applications, roofs and walls.
Major investments are shaping the future of data centres
The latest issue of Framtidens Datacenter highlights several examples of the developments currently taking place across the Nordic region.
Among them is EcoDataCenter’s investment in Kvarnsveden, where a former paper mill site is being transformed into a large-scale data centre facility. The publication also takes readers inside Bunkerberget in Gothenburg, where Bahnhof is giving a former underground facility a new role as modern digital infrastructure.
The issue also covers Google’s continued investments in Finland and the growing demand for power systems, cooling and other critical infrastructure.
These developments show how data centres are becoming an increasingly important part of both the construction and installation industries and of society’s long-term infrastructure.
Safe access is an important part of the overall solution
In technically advanced buildings, access to installations needs to be considered from the early design stage.
It is about creating solutions that work in day-to-day operation while also taking into account safety, maintenance, inspection, load requirements, environmental conditions and future service needs.
For Elkington, this means working closely with each project to identify the right type of solution based on the requirements of the building and its intended use.
Data centres are a clear example of environments where many technical systems need to work together and where safe and functional access can be critical throughout the entire life cycle of the facility.
